About the Quabbin Valley Twirlers SDC

Quabbin Valley Twirlers SDC classes were started March 1993 in Ware, Massachusetts. Our first dance was held on Friday October 22, 1993 in Ware at the VFW.

In March 1993, lessons were started at the VFW hall in Ware, MA, with 12 new dancers and eight former dancers from clubs that had closed years before.

In September of that year we decided to form a club and selected the name Quabbin Valley Twirlers since we are all from the towns surrounding the Quabbin Reservoir. The American Bald Eagle is seen in our club logo since this majestic bird was brought back from extinction in Massachusetts by stocking them near the Quabbin reservior.

We graduated our first class on October 22, 1993 and soon joined the Western Mass Square and Round Dance Association and Eastern District Square and Round Dance Association, both in Massachusetts.

In 1995 we moved to the Cold Spring school in Belchertown, and held our club dance and lessons there. At that time we were dancing on the 4th Friday of the month.

1996 found us at  the Hope Methodist Church and the Amercian Legion in Belchertown for lessons on Wednesday evenings and on Sunday evenings at the Union Church of Christ 51 Center St. in Ludlow.  . Our club dances at the First Church of Ludlow , 859 Center St. in Ludlow on the second Saturday from October until June. We hold lessons and dances from September through May each year on Sunday and Wednesday and Plus on Monday.  Call for times and locations.

In addition to square dancing, our club enjoy hay rides, sleigh rides, maple sugar pancake breakfasts, and our annual steak roast.

Quabbin Valley Twirlers is a caller-run club. The club caller  Gloria  Vivier, with the help of very active dancers that help with angeling, refreshments, banner raids, demonstrations, and promotions for square dancing.
